We're excited to announce the availability of the beta version of Zotero 7, the next major version of Zotero. Zotero 7 includes a massive architectural upgrade of Zotero's underlying code, bringing major performance gains, better OS compatibility, native support for Apple Silicon Macs, a 64-bit Windows build for better handling of large .

This is a big one. In the latest Zotero 7 beta, we’ve introduced a major redesign of Zotero, as well as a new app icon. This redesign represents a monumental effort from the entire team, and we couldn’t be more excited to finally share it. We’ve tried to create a beautiful, modern design that will still feel familiar to long-time Zotero . Just to note, Zotero 6.0.27, now available, can open databases with underline and text annotations from the Zotero 7 beta, so it should again be possible to switch back and forth between Zotero 6 and 7 with the same database. The new annotation types just won't appear in the Zotero 6 PDF reader.zotero beta Announcing the Zotero 7 Beta If you do want to try it, be sure you’ve made a backup of the Zotero data directory on your computer before installing the app. The beta is currently limited to 1,000 testers, but we'll increase that limit once the app has gone through a bit more testing. Please create new threads in these forums for any bug reports or feature requests. The latest Zotero 7 beta is available as a native build for ARM64 devices. It should provide much faster performance on ARM PCs, including the upcoming Copilot+ PCs, as well as when running Windows 11 in a virtual machine on an Apple Silicon Mac.
